Dock & pier staining for Lake Geneva homes

Lake Geneva has resort-town homes, historic lakefront estates and newer subdivisions, and that shapes how we approach dock & pier staining here. We see a lot of piers, boat houses and lakefront decks on Geneva Lake, and the work is planned around it.

Lake Geneva sits on Geneva Lake, and waterfront wood weathers faster on the water-facing side than the house side. We check both and often give the exposed side a second coat.

We clean, seal and stain fixed and seasonal wood docks, piers, boardwalks and shore steps on Fox Lake, Pistakee, Channel Lake, Lake Marie, Grass Lake, Bangs Lake, Cedar Lake, Diamond Lake, Round Lake, Island Lake and the rest of the county's inland lakes. Seasonal pier sections are best done on land in spring before they go in, or in fall after they come out.

How the job goes in Lake Geneva

  1. Schedule around the waterSpring before the pier goes in, or fall after it comes out, is ideal. Fixed docks are done in dry weather with drop cloths and containment.
  2. CleanPercarbonate cleaner and low-pressure rinse remove algae, gray and goose mess. Slime on the lower boards gets a scrub.
  3. Dry fullyDock wood is wetter than deck wood. We wait for a meter reading under 15% before anything goes on.

Lake Geneva dock & pier staining FAQ

Is deck stain safe to use on a dock over a lake?

Some are, some are not. We use penetrating stains and sealers suitable for use near water, apply them on land when possible, and use drop cloths and containment on fixed docks. We do not apply finish over open water in wind.

When is the best time to stain a dock?

Spring before the pier sections go in, while they are dry and on land. Fall after they come out is the second-best window. Fixed docks are done in summer during a dry stretch.

How far in advance should I book dock & pier staining in Lake Geneva?

Two to four weeks in spring and early fall, which are the busiest windows. Midsummer usually has more availability. Text photos and your town and we will give you a date with the quote.

Do you charge extra to come to Lake Geneva?

Lake Geneva is just over the state line from our Zion-area work, and it is inside our normal service radius. No separate travel charge for Lake Geneva.
