Fence staining for Racine homes

Racine has a lakefront city with historic neighborhoods and post-war subdivisions, and that shapes how we approach fence staining here. We see a lot of older decks and porches in the historic districts, and the work is planned around it.

Being near Lake Michigan and the Root River matters too. Wood close to water sees more humidity, more morning dew and, on open water, more reflected sun. We allow extra drying time and lean toward stains with stronger UV blockers on the exposed sides.

Fence staining is a volume job, so the shortcuts are obvious: a quick spray with no back-brush, no cleaning first, one side only. That fence looks great for a summer and fails the next. We clean the fence first because a new fence has mill glaze and an old one has gray and mildew, and stain does not bond to either. Then we spray and brush so the stain is in the wood, not on it.

How the job goes in Racine

  1. Measure and confirmLinear feet, height, both sides or one, gates, and the stain tone. We check whether a neighbor's side is included.
  2. CleanA wood cleaner and low-pressure rinse remove gray, mildew and mill glaze. New fences get a light wash to open the grain.
  3. ProtectGrass, garden beds, siding, AC units and cars within range are covered or shielded. We work around the wind.
  4. Spray and back-brushSprayed for speed, then brushed in panel by panel so the stain penetrates and there are no runs or holidays.

Racine fence staining FAQ

How soon can a new cedar fence be stained?

Once the mill glaze is washed off and the wood is dry, usually two to eight weeks after installation. Pressure-treated fences need longer, often three to six months, until water soaks in rather than beading.

Do you stain both sides of the fence?

We can. Many homeowners do their side only, or split the cost with a neighbor. Both sides gives the longest life because it seals the wood all the way around.

How far in advance should I book fence staining in Racine?

Two to four weeks in spring and early fall, which are the busiest windows. Midsummer usually has more availability. Text photos and your town and we will give you a date with the quote.

Do you charge extra to come to Racine?

Racine is just over the state line from our Zion-area work, and it is inside our normal service radius. No separate travel charge for Racine.
